Capacity equivalent to 5,500 hours of high definition transmissions has been booked with leading satellite operator Eutelsat by TV channels and service providers ahead of the 2018 World Cup which kicks off on 14 June.

To take on the latest telecom player's proposed foray into fibre connected broadband service, the state owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) has launched its FTTH (fiber-to-the-home) broadband scheme on 13 June.

The telecom regulator TRAI’s model of public wifi did not go well with the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) which represents telcos such as Bharti Airtel, Vodafone India, Idea Cellular and Reliance Jio Infocomm.

Telecom Minister Manoj Sinha said that In-flight connectivity is expected to be available within a year. He added that the telecom firms, airlines and in-flight connectivity providers are expected to attend the meeting soon to finalise the plan.
